Considered one of the most iconic parks in NYC, there’s never a shortage of things to do. Start by exploring the bustling farmers’ market (more on that later), take a leisurely stroll through the park’s green spaces, enjoy a picnic with friends, or simply relax and people-watch.

Don’t miss the chance to admire the statues, like the George Washington statue or the Independence Flagstaff. Throughout the year, the park hosts various events, from concerts and art installations to yoga classes and cultural festivals.

What’s with the digital clock at Union Square Park?

Okay, so you might notice a large digital clock on the side of a building on the south end of the park. It’s a commissioned art instillation called “Metronome” that was installed in 1991 and functioned like a regular clock. However, since 2020, the theme of the art instillation has changed.

In 2020, the Metronome started to show the “time remaining until the earth’s carbon budget expires due to global warming.” Serving as a stark reminder about our global impact.
