2024 Open Championship odds, predictions: Scottie Scheffler projection by golf model that nailed past 3 majors (2024)

Scottie Scheffler showed golf fans he was human with his T-41 performance at the U.S. Open, but he didn't let that picture of him linger around for long after winning the Travelers Championship one week after his poor showing at the third major of the year. With the fourth major of 2024 beginning on Thursday, July 18, from Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland, Scheffler looks to claim the 2024 Open Championship title and become the first golfer since Rory McIlroy (2014) to win two major titles in the same year.

Scheffler is the 15-4 favorite in the latest 2024 Open Championship as he enters with six victories over his last 10 tournaments. Scheffler became the first golfer since Arnold Palmer in 1962 to win six PGA Tour titles before the start of July. Rory McIlroy is next in line on the PGA odds board at 8-1, followed by U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau at 12-1. Other British Open contenders include Ludvig Aberg (12-1), Viktor Hovland (15-1) and Jon Rahm (15-1). Before locking in any 2024 Open Championship picks or Scottie Scheffler props, be sure tosee the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine.

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

This same model has also nailed a whopping 13 majors entering the weekend, including the 2024 Masters -- its third Masters in a row -- and this year's PGA Championship and U.S. Open. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now with the Open Championship 2024 field taking shape, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.

Top 2024 Open Championship predictions

One major surprise: Collin Morikawa, an 18-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Morikawa has two top-five results in majors this season, finishing T-3 at the Masters and T-4 at the PGA Championship. The 27-year-old won the 2021 Open Championship and has won two of the 17 major events he's competed in, showcasing a great return for a golfer with 18-1 odds.

Morikawa is fifth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained and ranks first in driving accuracy to put himself in great positions to set up his second shot. He's sixth on the PGA Tour in birdie average and fourth in putting average, which are both aided by him hitting 78.3% of his fairways. Morikawa is fourth in the FedEx Cup standings, and given his status as a two-time major winner and strong major play against the top competition this season, the model projects value in Morikawa at his current 2024 Open Championship odds.

The model has also examined where Scheffler finishes at the 2024 Open Championship. Scheffler has racked up six wins already this season, which includes his second major championship at the Masters in April. He's finished outside the top-10 just twice in 15 starts season and is coming off a victory at the Travelers Championship in his latest start.

He's been able to dominate the opposition thanks to his incredible ball striking. Scheffler enters the 2024 Open Championship ranked first in greens in regulation percentage (74.14%) and strokes gained: approach to green (1.485). He's also been effective on the green, ranking first in putting average (1.687) and 25th in putts per round (28,38).The model just locked in its Scottie Scheffler Open Championship picks here.
