The Game Awards in 2023 was a huge deal! Baldur’s Gate 3 won Game of the Year, which was a big surprise because it was also announced for Xbox. There were lots of cool announcements too, like free DLC for God of War, a brand-new Monster Hunter game, and a teaser for a mysterious game called "The Finals" by Hello Games. Hideo Kojima showed up and teased a new game for Xbox called OD, which got everyone really excited. Overall, it was a night filled with exciting news and trailers for upcoming games!Even though they were honoring amazing games, Geoff Keighley talked about a really tough thing. In 2023, lots of game makers lost their jobs—like 6,000 to 7,000 people! It's hitting even the studios that make great games. The people who lost their jobs are having a hard time finding new ones because there aren't as many openings as before. Xbox update - For now, there will be four Xbox exclusives coming to other platforms (currently unnamed, but there are rumours the games areHi-Fi Rush,Pentiment,Sea of Thieves, andGrounded). However, heavy hitters like Indiana Jones, Starfield and big Bethesda titles will remain safely on Xbox.Xbox has also announced a next-gen console project, stating it will be the ‘largest technical leap’ gamers have ever seen. Insider scoop - Microsoft today addressed recent reports and rumors about a change to its first-party strategy in an Xbox podcast presentation, confirming that a slate of four titles would be released on non-Xbox consoles.Xbox head Phil Spencer said that Starfield and Indiana Jones – two games that reports had named as multiplatform candidates – are not among the four titles, reassuring players that this is "not a change to our fundamental exclusive strategy."Spencer said the individual game teams would make their own announcements about going to other platforms, but said two were community-driven titles, while the other two were smaller games "never meant to be billed as platform exclusives." The latest game was announced for Xbox consoles last year with a 2023 promise, and Xbox Cloud Gaming players will also be able to stream Age of Empires IV.Age of Empires IV originally launched in late 2021 on PC, and Microsoft added the title to its PC Game Pass service. Microsoft has added a tutorial to the console port of Age of Empires IV, which helps players get used to the controller layout. There’s also optional cross-play multiplayer support between PC and Xbox players and full keyboard and mouse support.Real-time strategy (RTS) games aren’t an obvious fit for consoles and controller play, but Microsoft released Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition earlier this year, and we found that it plays great. Verge reporter Ash Parrish found that the thoughtful controller interface “worked as seamlessly as I remember with a mouse and keyboard.”Age of Empires IV also has a villager priority system that uses predefined presets and custom settings so that players can assign villagers to focus on resource gathering with a sing...

Xbox 360 Digital Store Will Close Next July: Microsoft will close its Xbox 360 digital store next July, though anything purchased will still be accessible. From a report: On 29th July 2024, Xbox 360 users will no longer be able to purchase new games, DLC, or other entertainment content from either the console store or the web-based marketplace. In addition, the Microsoft Movies & TV app on the Xbox 360 will no longer function. Of course, the store will continue as normal until that date next July. After that time, any games purchased will still remain playable and deleted purchases can still be re-downloaded. Online multiplayer will also remain accessible for games already purchased (digitally or physically), as long as the publisher supports the servers. Further, users will still be able to play Xbox 360 games on Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S consoles via backward compatibility, and hundreds of games will remain available to purchase on those consoles.Read more of this story at Slashdot.
